About Me - Who Is Marsha Savage?

I am a professional fine artist! Being an artist feels like I have a connection to nature. Giving back to the art community is another way I feel a connection and I believe it is an important one.

That is me painting in the desert area out West during a visit to a friend in the Phoenix AZ area. Many times I paint after the end of the International Association of Pastel Societies convention (IAPS for short) which is held in Albuquerque NM. I love visiting the arid West because it is a completely different landscape from the green we have in Georgia!

I have been an artist for 50 years and teaching for over 25 of those years. Many classes are held in my beautiful state of Georgia. I have taught workshops in many places around the United States and participated in conventions and competitions here and overseas.

Students come to me for learning traditional techniques to create the kind of art they think about. Then they find out there is so much more to being an artist than just the doing of it. I always tell them I am going to get inside their brain to find what they need. I ask the hard questions instead of just telling them answers. It makes them think.

And here I am painting during a Water Lily Festival at Gibbs Gardens located north of Atlanta GA. People stop by to watch us paint and to talk about our art.

Besides creating my art, I am writing a book about being an artist! I was asked for years when I was going to write a book. Students and members of the art organizations I belong to kept asking. I am still working on it, and it is taking me several years to do so.

I joined Medium to help me be a better writer, and I think I am making some progress! For years I created blog posts about everything to do with being an artist and shared them on my Facebook, Instagram, and in my teaching. I created a lot of content about growing as an artist which has helped me work on my book.

Here is one of my favorite paintings, "Willeo Park Misty" done in pastel 16" x 20". It was done plein air (on location) for the Great Chattahoochee Paint Out in Roswell GA. This painting won the Best of Show for the event. It is in my home and not for sale!

Have a look at my website for an idea of the paintings I produce and the galleries that represent me.
